Mandatory Entry Requirements
- Valid Passport All foreign nationals must carry a valid passport. Many countries require that the passport be valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay, though the USA does not officially impose this rule β your passport must be valid for the duration of your visit. U.S. Department of State β Visas
- US Visa or ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) Citizens of Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries can apply for an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) online before travel β this allows stays of up to 90 days for tourism or business. All other nationalities must apply for a B-1/B-2 tourist visa at a US embassy or consulate. Apply for ESTA
- Biometric Entry (fingerprints & photo) All non-US-citizen visitors (with limited exceptions) are required to provide fingerprints and a digital photograph at the port of entry as part of the US-VISIT biometric screening program. DHS Biometrics information
- Proof of Sufficient Funds CBP officers may ask you to demonstrate you can financially support yourself during your stay. Carrying bank statements, a credit card, or cash is recommended. There is no fixed minimum, but you should show you can cover accommodation, food, and activities. CBP β International Visitors
- Proof of Accommodation A hotel booking confirmation, Airbnb reservation, or a letter from a US host may be requested by CBP officers at the port of entry. Having an address where you will be staying is required on arrival/departure forms. CBP β International Visitors
- Travel Insurance Travel health insurance is not legally required to enter the USA, but it is strongly recommended. Healthcare costs in the United States are among the highest in the world β a single emergency hospital visit can cost tens of thousands of dollars without coverage. U.S. State Dept β Health insurance abroad
- Return or Onward Ticket CBP officers or your airline may require proof of a return or onward flight to confirm you intend to leave the US before your authorised stay expires. This is especially important for ESTA/VWP travellers and B-visa holders. CBP β Entry requirements
